And just like that, another weekend gone by! Sunday was especially memorable for me because I reached a new PR after completing my fourth Chicago Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon. I can’t really explain what I was feeling going into this race – uneasy nerves, ill-prepared, anxious. If you asked me 8 months ago when I registered for the race if I thought it was a good idea, I would have said absolutely! It seemed like a fitting opportunity seeing it was taking place 3 months before our wedding (ideal time to kick work outs into high gear!). Do you think I followed a arduous training plan? Not necessarily. That was the initial plan, but before I knew it, the race was 3 weeks out. I have put max effort and dedication into my 6 days a week Circuit Fit training, but the endurance needed for running in comparison to circuit fit/HIIT is vastly different. When race day arrived, I made a silent promise to myself that I would keep running (regardless of pace) and that a large part of what I was doing required mental strength. I definitely felt physical pain (feet, hamstrings, calves, back muscles), but even more so, I experienced mental toughness. I proved something to myself this weekend. I proved that even with little training, I could still overcome a challenge. And you know what….it felt pretty damn good. When I realized I reached a new PR, I actually said out loud that I was proud of myself. If you’ve read any of the previous posts, I have touched on this before. I am usually very hard on myself and demand high expectations, but am trying to cut myself a little slack and be proud of the things I do and the person I am becoming.
Also on the weekend agenda, I upped my outfit game for Saturday brunch at Soho House. I found both this floral skirt and ruffled crop top from Zara and paired together to create a monochromatic look. This skirt prompted me to do a lot of this….
A lot of twirling. I find it a big fashion win when an outfit screams confidence and fun. The pattern and colors alone couldn’t be more perfect for the beautiful and breezy temps we’ve been experiencing in Chicago. These nude Hinge sandals are a new summer staple – who doesn’t love a chunky heel? Three things I look for in shoes are comfort, stability and style…all of which these sandals deliver on! Lastly, if you’re in the market for a simple and classic clutch, look no further. Highly recommend the Gigi New York “All in One Bag” – mine (shown below) is the bone embossed python and can be personalized for an additional $10.
Today set the tone for what’s going to be a great and very productive week! Aside from work and wedding to-do’s, I strive to enjoy all the summer fun in the city…beach/pool days, new restaurants , work outs, wandering the city streets, movies in the park, trip to Grand Rapids for a day of beer tasting, and the list goes on and on. The only growing to-do list I am okay with is one which outlines new experiences. There is nothing but positivity in wanting to keep growing, learning and trying new things. Carry on!
