Changing Seasons

I can’t believe that we had our first snow fall yesterday! The seasons are changing at a rapid pace. Thanksgiving is in less than two weeks and Christmas is only forty-five days away. WHAT?! I will not deny that nothing makes me happier than decking out the house in holiday décor, lighting a balsam fir candle and going into complete hibernation mode. Once again, my transition in wardrobe is struggling to keep up with the seasonal change. I’ve refused to wear my puffer jacket to the gym in the mornings (despite the 30 degree temps!), but rather keep rolling with my Patagonia fleece pullover. All in due time…

As October and the Fall months drew near, I was on a personal mission to find two items I’ve never had luck buying: (1) comfortable and flattering sweater dress and (2) over-the-knee boots. I am 5’2 and have a curvy petite frame. It has taken me years to somewhat accept my short torso and muscular legs – in all honesty, I work at loving my body everyday. It is a challenge for me as it is for many women out there, but I aim to keep perspective and be grateful for the beautiful body I was given and strive to keep it healthy and strong. In years past, I avoided buying sweater dresses and over-the-knee boots because I constantly felt defeated and didn’t like how they looked. But the changing of seasons this year is different – I’ve learned to dress for my body.

I stumbled upon this sweater dress during an impromptu trip to Nordstrom. The dress is by Topshop and fits like a glove – I went up a size (US 6) because I wanted a cozy and oversized feel. It is incredibly warm  and can be styled for a day at the Arboretum (like I did here!) or would be a great Thanksgiving outfit. My over-the-knee boots are by Vince Camuto. These are a beautiful lush suede material with a stacked block heel (the best kind for stability and comfort). What I love most is how they lengthen my legs – whether paired with dresses or worn over jeans/leather pants/leggings. This is my third pair of Vince Camuto boots and they all fit the same – stiff and narrow in the toe box. They do get more comfortable with each wear! Next on my list is the Webey Moto Bootie – I’ve been looking for a casual and edgy option during these colder months!
